In 1835 Manuel Maria Gonzalez founded Gonzalez Byass in Jerez, Spain, dedicating himself to wine and spirit production at just 23 years old. By 1844 he was exporting the first bottles of Tio Pepe, another of his leading brands of sherry, to London. Soon the UK would become the biggest market for Gonzalez. In 1855 Robert Blake Byass, the company's UK distributor, became a partner with Gonzalez to strengthen links with the UK.
Today the Gonzalez family is in its fifth generation of ownership of the company. Its wines have never been better.
Gonzalez Byass is situated in the heart of the Jerez D.O. protected origin zone, in Jerez, Andalusia, Spain. "Sherry" is an Anglicisation of Jerez, and to truly be sherry it must come from the Jerez D.O.
This sherry is made from handpicked Palomino grapes from the company's 800 hectares of vineyards. The grapes are lightly pressed and the wine is fermented in stainless steel vats before being aged for twelve years in North American oak barrels.
This sherry has a golden amber, caramel colour. It has nutty notes of hazelnuts, toasted almonds and mature wood. The long finish is slightly sweet, intense and smooth.
Drink it chilled (9°C) at any time of the day. Sherry is versatile, don't just drink it as an aperitif!
